Since children come in all shapes sizes, with some growing faster than others, it is recommended that you make your purchase with the anticipation of growth spurts if necessary.  For example, you can purchase a size 2 for an 18-month-old that is growing very fast.  Also, for a fast-growing 5-year-old, a size 6 may be the best choice.  Please review the size chart for further details.
